The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), established under National Highway Authority of India act, 1988 is an autonomous agency of the Government of India, responsible for management of a network of over 50,000 km of National Highways in India.
It is a nodal agency of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and its constant endeavour has been to save lives and work towards road safety.
In maximum accidental cases, due to delay in receiving medical aid the lives of the victims are inadvertently jeopardized, in order to cater this, measures should be taken to provide urgent assistance and treatment to the victims as per the gravity of the injury caused, especially in the very first hour after the trauma termed as the "Golden Hour".
Instant and proper first aid given to road accident victims during this hour increases the chance of survival manifolds and reduce the severities of injuries.
Hence in view of the aforesaid, NHAI has devolved a “Cashless Treatment Program” for accidental victims with the sole purpose of saving the maximum lives possible in all our capacity by providing with prompt assistance and support, helping mitigate all hinderances in their way to avail the best treatment possible.
The program is proposed to be launched along the Delhi-Mumbai, Mumbai-Chennai, Chennai-Kolkata, Kolkata-Agra-Delhi Corridors of Golden Quadrilateral covering approximately a length of 5,846 Km.
